NEW YORK (Reuters) - Liberty Media Corp, which owns stakes in several leading media and communications companies, said it was most likely to carry out a new asset swap with Time Warner Inc than with any of its other holdings.
"I would think thats one where you have the highest likelihood," Liberty Chief Executive Greg Maffei said of Time Warner. "And while nothing is imminent, you can imagine them being a seller of assets that we might like and frankly might understand better or might be able to run better, given the media characterization."
Maffei said the company has had some limited discussions with both Sprint Nextel, possibly for spectrum or long distance assets, and Motorola, though he noted both companies were dealing with efforts to boost their financial performance.
In May 2007, Liberty swapped 68.5 million shares of Time Warner it owned in exchange for the Atlanta Braves baseball team, Time Incs Leisure Arts and 960 million in cash.
