Kirstie Alley has been on a diet yo-yo for years, getting large and losing it, only to gain it back again. Was it too much for the Jenny Craig diet folks who have now officially replaced Kirstie by signing a slimmer celebrity, Queen Latifah, to be their spokeswoman? Kirstie made some great commercials for them - including ones introducing Eddie Van Halen's ex-wife Valerie Bertinelli - and at one point had lost 75 pounds. But she didn't keep it off and therein lies the problem, at least if you want to be a spokesperson for a national diet program.
Once weighing more than 200 pounds (but looking more like 250), the Cheers actress slimmed down with the help of the popular diet regime. Recently reports have surfaced that Kirstie, 56, is struggling with weight issues once again and is back above 200 pounds.
Jenny Craig spokesman Scott Parker says, "Although Kirstie will not appear in future advertising endeavours for us, she does remain on Jenny Craig's maintenance program, and is confident that our program has helped her incorporate positive lifestyle changes that should last a lifetime.
"Now that Kirstie has 'passed her maintenance baton' to Valerie, you'll see a new campaign with a new celebrity client emerge in 2008. one that promotes health with Queen Latifah.".
