PERTH, Australia - Actor Heath Ledger's father said his son's funeral will be held Saturday with only 10 family members present in his hometown in Australia. Kim Ledger told reporters in Perth the family wanted them to stay away.
"The funeral will be very, very private and there will only be 10 people there, immediate family and nobody else," he told a press conference outside the house of his former wife, Sally Ledger-Bell, Heath Ledger's mother.
"It's a pretty sad time. We're finding it difficult to cope by ourselves, let alone cope with everybody around the world," he said.
"Having said that, we do really appreciate the outpouring and the emotional support from all over the globe," he added.
A service will be held at a Uniting Church girls' school, Penrhos College, before the star of "Brokeback Mountain" is buried.
Family friend Alison Carroll-Jung said mourners will start arriving at the college for the service about midday.
Ledger's 2-year-old daughter Matilda and his former fiancee, actress Michelle Williams, reportedly arrived in Perth from the United States this week.
Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs in a Manhattan apartment on Jan. 22. He was 28 years old.
