ROME (AFP) - Condolences poured in to former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi on Sunday following the death of his mother Rosa Bossi in Milan at age 97, Italian media reported.
The leader of Italys political right, who hopes to return to power after the collapse of Romano Prodis center-left government, had been traveling back and forth from Rome to his home base of Milan over the past few days to be at his mothers side.
Berlusconis mother had accompanied him on several occasions in his highly public life, including to the polling station last April to vote for her sons Forza Italia party.
The leaders of AC-Milan, Berlusconis football team, announced that the players would wear black armbands in mourning Sunday evening at the Italian championship game against Florences Fiorentina.
Italian President Giorgio Napolitano as well as Prodi and the leaders of both right- and left-wing parties also extended their condolences to Berlusconi.
