LOS ANGELES - The Mojave spaceship builder whose workers died during a test last summer didn't offer proper training, California occupational safety inspectors said Friday.
Three workers with Scaled Composites LLC were killed in an explosion in July during development of a new rocket motor for SpaceShipTwo, a passenger vehicle Scaled is building for Virgin Galactic, part of Virgin Group. Virgin Galactic bills itself as the world's first spaceline.
Scaled flew the first privately funded manned rocket into space in 2004.
The state said in a report Friday that Scaled failed to properly train workers about the dangers of nitrous oxide that was used during the July test.
A call to Scaled founder Burt Rutan was not immediately returned.
