BEIJING (Reuters) - Award-winning Chinese film director Zhang Yuan has been arrested after being found taking drugs at his Beijing home, official media said on Thursday.
When police burst into his apartment Zhang was found taking a variety of drugs with four friends, the Xinhua news agency said, citing a Beijing Television report.
A subsequent urine sample tested positive for ketamine and ice, the report said.
Zhang appeared "excited and delirious" and shouted at police "I dont know who you are and why youre in my apartment" before being taken away, it added.
Zhang, 45, whose works include "Little Red Flowers," which won an award at the Berlin Film Festival, is one of Chinas most popular directors. He is a member of the so-called "six-generation" filmmakers, known for his non-mainstream independent works.
In 1994, Time Magazine named Zhang one of 100 young world leaders for the 21st century.
