Los Angeles (E! Online) - Britney Spears is apparently serious about getting better.
Five days after making a well-publicized trip to a psychiatrist at the behest of her mother, the Blackout artist is continuing to seek treatment for what pal Sam Lutfi characterized as mental issues.
Yes, its true, Britney is taking drugs for bipolar disorder, a confidant of the singer told E! Online. Shes agreed to take it, but if she doesnt like it or it makes her feel sick, she might stop. So, everyones on pins and needles.
Spears family, friends and lawyers have been urging her to get treatment, believing it is the only course of action that will win the pop tart back shared custody of her sons with Kevin Federline.
She hasnt seen Sean Preston, 2, or Jayden James, 1, since Jan. 3, when she wound up being hospitalized following a bizarre standoff with police. Last week, the court commissioner overseeing the case gave her permission to call the boys. The next hearing in the case is Feb. 4.
On Friday, after speaking with mother Lynne for the first time in more than a month, Spears was spotted entering the Santa Monica office of a psychiatrist. Lutfi recapped the visit to The Views Barbara Walters on Monday, acknowledging Spears suffered from mental issues, which are treatable.
Since that visit, however, Spears has tried to be more discreet.
Some [doctors] have been to the house, yes. Britney doesnt want to be photographed going in and out of a doctors office. Its embarrassing.
The visits have continued through this week, even after an impromptu intervention at her house late Monday that included Lynne and father Jamie, former assistant Alli Sims and current manager Lutfi.
Still, those close to her are taking a wait-and-see approach, especially since Spears has been reluctant to admit she has any problems.
Shes so unpredictable. No one trusts shell stay on it, the friend said. And she has to, or else whats the point? It wont work.
A source close to Federline also expressed skepticism, noting that Spears has taken meds before, but after a few weeks has repeatedly stopped.
Hes waiting to see if her behavior changes, she said. Thats how hell know shes sticking to the program.
